Connecting professionals to transform IP Management and Tech Commercialization in Brazil

CoPPICom is supported by the Danida Fellowship Centre and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark. The funding was granted through the Danida Fellows Networkers Grant 2025.

About the CoP

The Community of Practice on Process Maturity for Industrial Property Management and Technology Commercialization (CoPPICom) is a collaborative space that brings together professionals, researchers, companies, and public institutions committed to collecting, analyzing, and systematizing Brazilian cases of industrial property management and technology commercialization. It covers experiences in valuing intangible assets, technology transfer, licensing, and strategic integration with innovation and business.

Based on this research, a report will be prepared with best practices to guide organizations in structuring and operating more efficient IP management and technology commercialization processes, strengthening a culture of protection and strategic use of intellectual assets as instruments of competitiveness and sustainable development.

Inspired by Danish best practices and the ISO 56000 standards family, CoPPICom will promote knowledge exchange, capacity-building, and the development of collaborative projects aligned with the National IP Strategy. In addition, it will integrate national and international alumni from the Danida network, expanding global connections and strengthening Brazil's participation in international discussions on IP management and commercialization.

How did CoPPICom came to be?

CoPPICom emerged in 2025 with the project “Building a Community of Practice on Process Maturity for Industrial Property Management and Technology Commercialization,” funded by the Danida Fellows Networkers Grant. The initiative is inspired by insights from the Fostering Innovation & Commercialisation of IPR course at DFC (2021), whose training also led to the creation of the Intellectual Property and Innovation Management course in the Graduate Program of the Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI).

Aligned with INPI’s strategic objectives and the National IP Policy, CoPPICom seeks to promote sustainable development through knowledge sharing, capacity-building, and practical application at the local level, with an inclusive and network-based approach that strengthens Brazil’s innovation ecosystem.

The funding will enable a national meeting that will bring together experts and professionals to exchange experiences and begin building a Brazilian conceptual model for IP management and technology commercialization.

Purpose

This Community aims to develop a reference model for IP management and technology commercialization, collaboratively built from real cases, comparative studies, and national and international references.

The group will serve as a space for exchanging experiences and producing collective knowledge, seeking to consolidate and disseminate practices that enhance the capacity for protecting, managing, and commercializing intangible assets.

Objective

To collect Brazilian cases of industrial property management and technology commercialization and, based on them, compile a report containing best practices for structuring and operating these processes within organizations.

The project intends to establish a conceptual reference model, collaboratively developed, that adequately represents national practices and can guide organizations in managing and commercializing intangible assets.
